As technology is becoming more widely available and children have more access at younger age, we need to consider what types of effects will this have on our current and future youth. Looking at kids growing up now, it seems as if their world revolves around their cellphones, what they are posting on instagram, or how many followers they have. The world has changed, and kids are less involved in the real world.
In this blog, we will discuss the pros and cons of children and their use of media, and examine how the use of media will shape the future and effect the children using it. As an older sister, I find it interesting to see how different generations are using media, and how much it is shaping the youth, and who they are becoing as a generation. My younger sisters and I definitely grew up differently based on the way times have changed since I was a child. I believe it is important to shed light on the topic of children and media use as it has become such a large influence on the way that children learn and grow as people. The whole social world has shifted, and we need to determine whether or not exposure to media is helping children, or hurting them.

As I read your blog, we created a similar blog. As a child I would play outside with my friends, play monkey on the ground, and create skits with my neighbors to perform for the cul de sac. My younger singling and I definitely grew up differently. He was handed a tablet at a young age and the world that he lived in and lives in, revolves around his computer and cellphone.
ReplyDeleteHi Maddie!
ReplyDeleteReading you blog gave me so much insight about issues and dangers that children face now a days due to technologies. Honestly, I totally agree with you. It really is frustrating and sad to see 8 to 12 years old on their phone or computer constantly and not interacting with their friends. What even more frustrating, is to see their parent in some ways shutting their kid up using devices when they are at dinner with friends. In some ways, it sad to see how the new generation has change because of the improvements that have occur around us. I feel like, as we are moving forward things will get worst from here. Do you think things will get better or worst?
Hey Maddie,
ReplyDeleteI also wrote about a similar subject on my blog and enjoyed hearing your perspective. I think we both look back fondly on our childhood before smartphones and social media became so intrusive. I was also wondering what Andrea asked regarding if you see things getting better or worse in the future? I would be interested in hearing your perspective and enjoyed reading your blog!
